What is Web Server?

                                                              

The computer where data is maintained and which causes the other Computers to be linked up with the internet is called a Web Server. A Web Server is also known as a gateway. This server is permanently connected with the internet with a dedicated telephone line and normally this line remains open for 24 hours. Any computer can be turned into a Web server by installing server software and connecting the machine to the internet.


There are innumerable web pages of varieties in a web server. These web pages (collection of specially formatted documents) have their definite addresses, which facilitate anybody to search their needed materials. This web site is a web address consisting of many such web pages. As for example. w.w.w. hotmail. com, is a web site. If you search this site, you will find varieties of information relating to trade, education, science, etc.
