Kaspersky shuts down US business after antivirus ban | Reuters
Russian cyber security company Kaspersky has announced the suspension of all its operations in the country after receiving sanctions from the US government. The organization will start this activity on July 20. Last month, the country's government banned the sale of Kaspersky's antivirus software in the United States, accusing it of ties to Russia.
Kaspersky said in a statement about the closure of the US business that it was a "regrettable and difficult decision" to cease business operations in the US. But there is no more business potential here. And so all Kaspersky operations will be phased out from the country.
According to the US announcement, Kaspersky software updates, sales and product licenses will be banned in the US from September 29. Kaspersky's business will also be restricted within 30 days. After banning the sale of the software, the country's government also imposed sanctions against top 12 Kaspersky officials.
Kaspersky started its journey in 1997. The multinational corporation is headquartered in Moscow, Russia but has offices in 31 countries around the world. Kaspersky Antivirus is used by more than 40 million users worldwide.
